THE STARS ALIGN
The Stars Align centers around the 12 zodiacs and their elements Air, Water, Earth, and Fire.
Using spray paint, newspaper, and thin slices of wood, artist Andrew Rinke spent a year creating this series exploring the beauty of our cosmic identities and celestial alignment.
HOW THESE STARS WERE BORN
After finishing a commissioned piece with a constellation in 2024, I realized I had to accept the assignment and create my first collection: The Stars Align.
In creating each piece, I focused on their element and the color of each zodiac's ruling planet's color.
My first batch of spray-painted skies with the bright greens of Taurus, fiery golds of Leo, watery Cancer, and my first attempt at Gemini.
Naturally, I had to restart Gemini with a second canvas.
It was slow progress throughout 2025. I completely underestimated the challenge of making 12, beautiful and unique pieces while competing with priorities outside the studio.
For each piece, I'd spray paint a sky, paint features like water or an orb, and play with pieces of wood veneer to create a scene in nature as with Sagittarius.

Sag-season was a special time because I had to make the brave choice and pursue art full-time to progress my practice.
