Meet Andrew

Hello! â€‹I'm Andrew Rinke, a spray-paint artist based in Seattle, WA.

After finishing school in Michigan, I moved west and quickly fell in love with the mountains. In the PNW, I’m inspired and motivated to make art based on the healing power of nature and our universal connection to it.

All about aprinke

a·p·ring·key

Since college in 2004, my handle has always been aprinke: first and middle initials + my last name pronounced "a-p-ring-key." Aprinke is part of my identity, and coincidentally, aprinke autocorrects to sprinkle :)

It's taken a non-linear journey to launch my art career, but I'm doing it!  Thank you for visiting my site and learning more about my work. I say often "bloom where you're planted," and I finally feel like I'm blooming.

Follow Your Stars

I named this first collection of work after being thrown off course, navigating uncharted territory, and having the courage to trust what's written in the stars.

Creative Process

My Artistic Journey

My mother is an untrained artist who encouraged us kids to do more art, whether at our kitchen table or at school as a volunteer art teacher when the school didn't have budget for art class. She exposed us to drawing outside the lines and embraced our creative experiments and curiosity. Thank you, Mom!

Until 2023, I only made art when a wall was too white or too empty. Outside of high school art class, I've been largely self taught. I attribute any success with my ability to see color and composition paired with a willingness to give an idea a try.

Alongside my art, I worked in digital marketing, community advocacy, and interior design.

Lofted above a woodworking shop with a handful of other Seattle artists and makers, I have the space to make a mess, gather wood scraps, and have a community of kind creatives.

Spray Paint Artist

My Creative Process and Materials

Creative Process

Spray Paint:  I begin each piece imagining a time of day. Picking a color of blue, I go from there spraying layers of 20-30+ colors in each sky. It's gorgeous, but once dry, any amount of the pigment  falls off. I accept what's left and head back to the spray booth for two or three rounds.

Observation:  Once I have my spray-painted sky, I really look at it and allow the organic shapes and movement dictate the landscape. Sometimes I feel like it's mountains, a striking horizon line, or combination of both. I've learned, you can't force it.

Upcycled Materials:  I often use what I have around me: household tools, old sample paint from interior design clients, scrap wood veneer from woodworking shops, and old Pandemic-era newspapers. I love giving things a new life.

Portfolio of  Work

I start every piece by picking up a color of blue. Lighter or darker, each layer and splatter of color develop the sky in unexpected ways.
